Milagro Tequila and Crema Restaurante Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a French Twist

NEW YORK, April 17, 2008 – Milagro Tequila has partnered with Crema Restaurante (111 W. 17 St., 212-691-4477) to offer a tequila pairing with their unique $50 five course prix-fix menu from Friday, May 2 to Friday, May 9, 2008.  Milagro Silver, Anjeo and Reposado will be served along with French-inspired dishes created by Chef Julieta Ballesteros.

Ballesteros, a Monterrey, Mexico native, has created the menu as a “peace offering” to the French. Between 1864 and 1867, Mexico was ruled by the former Austrian archduke Ferdinand Maximilian, who was kept in power by French troops. Though Maximilian's reign was brief and tragic, French cooking left its mark on many Mexican-restaurant dishes.  Some of the dishes that Ballesteros has reinterpreted with French ingredients include: 

  • Queso Flameado, which usually calls for Chihuahua cheese, gets nutty gruyere as its new base.
  • Her famous duck enchilada suiza has been paired off with foie gras as its partner.
  • Pomme Frites get a musty zing with huitlacoche aioli.

 

All Milagro tequilas are made at Tequilera Cielito Lindo in Jalisco, Mexico, using 100 percent estate grown blue agave, hand-picked and cooked to perfection in traditional clay ovens.  Milagro Tequilas being served at the dinner includes:

  • Milagro Silver – Fresh, clear and crisp, made with 100% blue agave and triple distilled for unparalleled smoothness 
  • Milagro Reposado – Aged in single oak barrels for 6 months in small handmade batches, 100% blue agave Reposado has a mellowed taste and plesing bouquet
  • Milagro Anejo – Aged in single oak barrels for 18 months, 100% blue agave Anejo has a rich amber color and subtle woody flavor
  • Milagro Select Barrel Silver – New in 2007, Select Barrel Reserve Silver is a limited edition, 100% estate grown blue agave tequila. Mellowed in new French Oak barrels
  • Milagro Select Barrel Reserve Reposado – Aged 10 months in new French single oak barrels, Reserve Reposado has a honey amber color that radiates from its hand blown crystal bottle.
  • Milagro Select Barrel Reserve Anejo – Smooth, sensually warm and full-bodied, Reserve Anejo is aged 3 years in new French single oak barrels and comes in a unique hand blown crystal bottle
